Happy Earth Day! Fifty years ago today, people celebrated the first Earth Day. Do something special today to celebrate our Earth. Everyday reduce, reuse, and recycle. We need to take care of our Earth. Below is an Earth Day Bingo that was produced by Knabusch Math & Science Center in Monroe.

Plants- National Geographic Kids Read Aloud with Extension Activities

Image
Spring is upon us and Earth Day is Wednesday! I thought some science would be a great addition to our literacy today. The book Plants discusses different types of plants, how they reproduce, their uses and more.  How do plants impact your life? Make sure you take a look at the extension activities at the end of the video to see some ideas to incorporate writing and math into this read aloud activity.

Moon Sand Science

Image
As promised, I tried a recipe for Moon Sand today. It was much cheaper to make than the $19.95 it is listed for on Amazon. Not as good quality, but fun either way to play with (and it smells amazing)! Extension activities to go with this include using your fraction knowledge to double the recipe or try different food coloring colors to make new color. Have fun (make sure you ask for permission before you try it). Ps. You need more than a few drops of food coloring to make a bold color! Stay safe! Ms. Lora

My Even Day, by D. Fisher and D. Sneed- Read Aloud

Image
Happy Thursday! Today's book is My Even Day. Based on even numbers, it is a follow up to One Odd Day. Extension Activities include making an Even Creature today (2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 mouths)! Count items around your house to see if you have even or odd amounts (I have 4 kitchen chairs so they are even). You can also make a number chart 1-10 and draw pictures for each one, circle your pictures in pairs to see if the number is even or odd. If you don't want to make your own, can you tell which are even and which are odd from my picture below?

One Odd Day by D. Fisher/ D. Sneed Read Aloud

Image
Happy Wonderful Wednesday. Our book today is One Odd Day. It is a great book to incorporate reading and math! Our goal today is that "I can describe patterns with numbers". Extension activities- Make a very odd creature (you can draw, use clay, etc.), Count things at home to see if they have a match if not they are odd-- (ex. I have 4 kitchen chairs so they each have a match so they are not odd, BUT we have three recliners so one does not have a match- ODD). Stay tuned tomorrow is My Even Day!!!

Oh, the Places You'll Go- by Dr. Seuss Read Aloud

Image
Happy Tuesday! Today I chose "Oh, the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss. I know a lot of folks are going stir crazy right now at home during the Covid 19 shut down. So, I share this book today thinking of times ahead when we can get out and do the things we are missing. A great writing activity that meets so many of our writing goals is to write or draw after listening. Where would you want to go? Who would you want to see? Take care of yourself and watch for more posts later this week.
